Hello! My name is Frank Torres and I am running for a spot on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Wyoming Valley. This congregation has given me a lot in terms of community and grounding, and I’d like the opportunity to give back with my energy and service.

However, due to an interesting quirk in our bylaws, the current Board determines who will run in upcoming Board elections. Because of that, I was passed over for this year’s nominations despite submitting my intent ahead of time. If you think that’s more than a little unfair, then I’m the dark horse candidate for you.

If that’s not enough, I…

  • Am a proud Dad of a trans kiddo
  • Have been a member of the congregation for over a decade
  • Am on the Speakers Committee and have wrangled 2-3 new service speakers
  • Have a background in non-profit fundraising, event planning and advertising
  • Am a small business owner
  • Have mad website design and hosting skills
  • Am a survivor of homelessness and food insecurity, as well as resultant mental health issues

I am also a person of color, to add some much-needed diversity to our current Board.

If you think I’d be a good fit on the Board to help move the congregation forward, please consider me in the upcoming election on May 17th where I will be formally placing my nomination from the floor.

Thanks!
